Dolphins rookie RB De’Von Achane and Jets veteran WR Allen Lazard inactive for Black Friday game
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Miami Dolphins rookie running back De’Von Achane was inactive for the game Friday against the New York Jets, who were sitting veteran wide receiver Allen Lazard.
Achane was questionable for the NFL’s first game played on Black Friday after he aggravated the same knee injury last Sunday that caused him to miss the previous four games. Achane was limited at practice all week and Miami elevated running back Darrynton Evans to the active roster from the practice squad in case Achane couldn’t play.
Lazard has struggled with drops the past few games and was a healthy scratch Friday. It has been a disappointing first season in New York for the 27-year-old Lazard, who signed a four-year, $44 million contract with the Jets in March after playing the last five years in Green Bay with Aaron Rodgers. He has just 20 catches for 290 yards and two touchdowns this season.
Wide receiver Randall Cobb, also a longtime teammate of Rodgers in Green Bay, was active after being a healthy scratch the last four games. He has three receptions for 20 yards.
Jets left tackle Mekhi Becton was inactive after spraining an ankle in Buffalo last Sunday. He’s expected to be replaced by rookie Carter Warren.
Offensive tackle Duane Brown, activated from injured reserve Thursday after missing eight games with a hip injury, was active but not starting despite fully participating in practice most of the past three weeks.
Among the Jets’ other inactives were cornerback Michael Carter II, defensive end Carl Lawson, offensive lineman Austin Deculus and linebacker Samuel Eguavoen.
Zach Wilson, who started the last nine games in place of the injured Rodgers, is the Jets’ emergency No. 3 quarterback. Tim Boyle was making his first start at quarterback for New York, with Trevor Siemian the backup.
Also inactive for the Dolphins were wide receivers Robbie Chosen and Chase Claypool, offensive lineman Robert Jones and cornerback Eli Apple. Skylar Thompson was the emergency No. 3 quarterback.
Starting left tackle Terron Armstead (knee), left guard Lester Cotton (hip), right guard Robert Hunt (hamstring) and right tackle Austin Jackson (oblique) were all active after being listed as questionable to play.
